Home Electrical Repair & Renovation FAQs

Can I Do My Own Electrical Repairs?

Under Queensland state law, it is illegal for anybody other than a qualified and licensed electrician to perform electrical work in the home. Not only is it illegal, but it can also be extremely dangerous and you lose future insurance claims should something go wrong. For example, if your property suffers from a fire as a result of an electrical fault, illegal unlicensed electrical work is grounds for refusing a claim. When it comes to home electrical repairs, you should always get a licensed electrician.

Why Do I Need To Upgrade My Electrical Switchboard?

Electrical switchboards all have safety switches installed that are designed to quickly switch off power to your home in the event of an electrical fault. As an important home electrical safety feature, they help protect you from potential electrical shocks as well as protect your home from fires caused by electronic appliances. In most cases, electrical switchboards need to be upgraded because they are not designed for modern appliances, which typically have higher current flows, and because modern family homes now use more appliances than they used to, which puts increased strain on the safety switch.
